Dr. Ure was born and grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine, and completed an Orthopedic Surgery residency at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon in 1989.

After practicing general orthopedics in McMinnville Oregon for five years, Dr. Ure sought additional training in joint replacement and completed a one-year specialty fellowship in joint replacement at the Joint Replacement Institute at Orthopedic Hospital in Los Angeles in 1995. He subsequently remained as an Associate at the Joint Replacement Institute, along with Drs. Harlan Amstutz and Thomas Schmalzried. he was part of the surgical team that implanted the first Conserve Plus metal bearing hip surface replacement prosthesis, developed by Amstutz, an internationally renowned joint replacement specialist. Dr. Ure assisted Dr. Amstutz in simplifying the procedure, and together they teamed in over 100 surface replacement procedures.

Dr. Ure relocated to the mountains of Ashville, NC in 1997, where he joined Asheville Orthopedic Associates. The Appalachian mountains weren’t quite to his liking however (too small, too much poison ivy), and he returned west to the majestic mountains of northern California and Mount Shasta in 2000.

Dr. Ure is a diplomat of the the American board of Orthopedic Surgery. He sub-specializes in minimally invasive joint replacement surgery, and has been invited to be part of a nationwide clinical trial for a minimally invasive alternative to hip replacement utilizing the Biomet ReCap hip resurfacing system.

When not practicing orthopedics, Dr. Ure participates in trial runs and triathlons, skiing, and enjoying time with his wife and two daughters.
